As a Magick practitioner, I’m constantly looking for ways to incorporate magical elements into my daily activities.  My spiritual journey is ferociously pushing me to examine my insides.  Looking within for answers to my biggest questions and deepest struggles, I’ve been forced to dig deeper at my dreams and their meanings.  The universe is literally shouting via freaky coincidences and intense de-ja-vu moments, “Focus on Dream Magic!”  This quest has made Dream Magic one of my favorite ways to connect to the divine.

After hard-fought struggles, misunderstanding and experience, I believe that dreams are messages from the depths of our soul that the conscious mind cannot always grasp.  Although the Dream world is confusing, illogical, and complex, delving into this realm is very rewarding.  Much like Alice in Wonderland, the events that transpire in our dreams reflect our emotions, fears and desires.  The following 4  magic tools have helped me tremendously in my Dream Magic journey and I hope they help you too.

Water Magic

There would be no life without water!  Water is an immensely powerful element and force symbolizing emotional depths.  Although Water always takes path of least resistance, it is the most powerful eroding force.  Water is receptive to intentions and energy.  Read the book, “The Hidden Messages in Water,” by Masaru Emoto to see how simple words and intentions have the power to change the crystalline structure of water molecules!

It is no surprise that Gods and Goddesses all around the world represent water and its’ different natural features in every pantheon.  In Santeria, Yemaya is the Mother Ocean Goddess and Oshun is the beautiful River Goddess. The Romans and Greeks with Neptune and Poseidon are another example.  This is but a fraction of the water Gods and Goddesses.

Water is such an underused magic ingredient but Incorporating Water into Dream Magic is super easy.  To keep your dreams clear and free of negativity, put a clear glass of water by your bed before you go to sleep.  The water will absorb negativity during your slumber and promote peaceful dreams.  Use a clear glass!  If you have small children or pets, be sure to place the glass where it won’t break.  Once you wake up dump the water.  Be sure not to drink the water because that would defeat the purpose.   Do not hold onto the yuck yuck!  Do not use the same glass of water more than once because that will diminish its effectiveness.

Planet Magic

Every Planet has its’ strengths and weaknesses.  When it comes to Dream Magic, Neptune is awesome!  Neptune, the planet ruling spirituality, intuition, and the Ocean is in its ruling sign, Pisces.  Since Neptune takes about 13 years to circle the Zodiac, it is a rare opportunity to have Neptune in Pisces in our lifetime.   Neptune illustrates the spiritual destiny and cultural expression of the generation and represents our collective sub-consciousness.  The cosmic play of Neptune can take many forms.  Whenever the following is happening, I pay close attention to my dreams:

  • the moon is in Pisces, (Occurs every 28 Days)
  • Neptune trines or sextiles another planet, (Use a planetary guide or astrologer.)
  • Full Moon in Pisces (Full Moon when Sun is in Virgo Approximately August 22-Fall Equinox)
  • Neptune Retrograde (Once a year for about 6 months)

Neptune is supercharging the subconscious and we are lucky to be a part of it.  See how Neptune affects your dreams.  The psychic powers of Neptune in Pisces will take center stage and your dreams will give you revolutionary truths.  See the link below to learn more about Neptune in Pisces.

Plant Magic

Plants are another powerful medium used in spiritual traditions.  In Santeria, it is said that there would be no Santeria without plants.  It’s easy to overlook the magical influences of plants as they appear to lack movement, but they are very alive.  Plants give their life energy when used.  An important note about plants is to always ask permission to the plant before taking any clipping.  Also, be sure to never cultivate more than a third of a plant, as that can kill or weaken it.

There are a lot of natural ingredients that promote both lucid and psychic dreams.  The following list of herbs can be used to promote sleep, dreams, calm, or intuitive states of being.  This is my go-to list of Dream Magic Plants.

 Herbs Effects Application
Chamomile Calming, Relaxing, Sleep, Meditation, Peace Essential Oil & Fresh/Dried Flowers- Tea
Clary Sage Calming, Euphoria, Dreams Essential Oil
Jasmine Love, Peace, Spirituality, Sleep, Psychic Dreams Fresh Flowers (Hard to come by Essential Oil that isn’t synthetic
Lavender Calming, Peace Essential Oil & Fresh/Dried Flowers
Marjoram Peace, Sleep, Longevity- Essential Oil, Fresh Leaves/Flowers
Mimosa Psychic Dreams, Love Fresh Flowers
Mugwort Psychic dreams, Astral Projection Fresh Leaves
Myrrh Spirituality, Meditation, Healing Essential Oil, Resin
Sandalwood Spirituality, Meditation, Healing Wood, Essential Oil

This is a small sampling of herbs and essences with properties that promote calm, sleep, and spirituality.  There are many ways to use these herbs.  The best reference I have found for Plant Magic is the book Magical Aromatherapy by Scott Cunningham.  Every bookshelf should have this book.  Please note- Essential oils can cause skin irritation.  Do not apply directly on the skin! Most oils are not intended for topical use or to be ingested.  The oils can also stain clothes.

To promote sleep and induce dreams I like incorporating these scents in my bedroom by adding an herb sachet to my pillow case or essential oils to the linens.  To help my daughter go to sleep, I often use a diffuser with Lavender essential oils an hour before bedtime.

Dream Journal

To analyze these spirit messages, I like to write them down.  I’ve found it easiest to jot down my dreams as soon as I wake up.  I keep a journal and pen in my nightstand exclusively for dreams because I’m more likely to write them down if I have what I need.  Instead of trying to write out long paragraphs narrating my dreams I make a bullet list of the date, images, people, and events for future reference.  Having all my dreams in one place helps me refer to them later and reflect on their significance with hindsight.

I also purchased a dream dictionary to get deeper insights as to the hidden meanings.  I find a lot of books on this subject in the used bookstore for less than $5 each!  If you get a book, I recommend smudging it with Sage or incense to clear out any energy from the previous owner.  I also recommend looking through the dream book prior to purchasing it and making sure it resonates with you.  Some books have pretty covers but don’t define many commonplace items or situations in dreams.  If you look up a dream definition and it doesn’t feel right, apply meanings that resonate with you.  Dream Magic is personal!

Living Dream Magic

Even if you just put one of these items into practice, you can expect the dream world to come to life.  Don’t be surprised if emotions and memories flow in like powerful waters.  The depths of emotion are an important place to visit as part of our human journey.
